Rodan Helps Connect Canada's Largest Solar Generating Station:
First Light
:: October-14-09 ::
Mississauga, ON, Canada, October 14th, 2009 – Rodan Energy made history by helping develop and connect Canada's largest solar generating station to the electricity grid. The 9.1 megawatt project called First Light, a joint venture between SunEdison and Sky Power Inc., is the first multi-megawatt solar farm in the country to connect to the electricity system, and the third-largest solar farm in North America to turn sunlight directly into electricity.
Rodan provided the Civil, Structural and Electrical Engineering component of the project including structural design, Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) submissions, and applying Professional Engineers of Ontario stamp to final documents.
"Rodan has been working hand in hand with SunEdison on electrical and structural engineering on the First Light project. They have been very helpful through all of the hurdles we came across and this project would not have been made possible without them." Ben Kahane, Project Engineer for the First Light Project.
"We are very proud to have contributed to this project," stated Paul Grod, President of Rodan Energy. "By connecting First Light Solar Park to the grid we are helping to deliver the benefits of solar to Ontario to meet the increasing demand for cleaner, non-emitting renewable energy solutions."
First Light covers an area large enough to fit nine football stadiums and convert enough sun rays each year to cleanly power 1,000 homes.
