York Region Students learn about Energy Conservation First Hand

Mississauga, ON, Canada, September 6th, 2007 – Soaring temperatures prompted a call for York Region businesses to cut energy use today. Participants in the enerShift Demand Response Programs, managed by Rodan Energy and Metering Solutions Inc. (“Rodan Energy”), were called upon to reduce power usage in response to electricity system constraints. Participating organizations included Magna International, Royal Group Technologies, Teknion Form, Protemp Glass, Ontario Sawdust, Vins Plastics, York Catholic District School Board (“YCDSB”) and many local municipalities.

With students heading back to school this week, some students in York Region were taught a lesson in energy conservation first hand. This was the first time during a school year that the YCDSB was called upon to reduce power usage. “The York Catholic District School Board is committed to leading by example,” said Norm Vezina, Manager of Building Systems. “By participating in the enerShift DR program, we are reducing our carbon footprint and demonstrating to our students the importance of energy conservation.”

“This fully demonstrates that each customer has the power to make a difference,” commented Paul Grod, President & CEO of Rodan Energy. “Through reducing power during times of system constraint, these program participants are helping to reduce Ontario’s reliance on coal power generation and promoting a ‘greener’ supply mix for the entire province.”
