York Region, ON, Canada, August 2nd, 2007 - Local businesses in York Region such as Magna, Royal Group, Canada’s Wonderland, Lear Corporation, Teknion Form and Protemp Glass and organizations such as the Towns of Markham, Richmond Hill and Aurora in addition to the York Catholic Regional School Board reduced electricity use upon request today to help alleviate electricity system constraints within PowerStream’s service territory.
A power advisory issued earlier in the day by Ontario’s Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), the organization that oversees Ontario’s power supply, prompted PowerStream to call upon enerShift™ Demand Response (DR) program participants to reduce power usage. The enerShift Demand Response program is administered by Rodan Energy and Metering Solutions. This is this first time that a reduction call was issued since the program was established earlier this summer.
“We are proud of the business customers in our service territory who have shown their leadership through participation in the enerShift Demand Response programs,” said Brian Bentz, PowerStream’s, President and CEO. “These are organizations who are now demonstrating that they have the power to make a difference.”
Robert Oboril, Quality Assurance Manager at Teknion Form commented "Any interruption in the supply of power has dramatic effects on operations. By actively reducing our demand, we are pleased to assist in maintaining a sufficient supply of electricity for York Region."

A similar program for northern York Region – Rodan’s enerShift York DR, including the communities of Newmarket, Whitchurch-Stouffville, Aurora and Bradford - was also activated today.
