York Region Businesses Cut Power to Reduce Peak Electricity Demand
& Help the Envoronment

York Region, ON, Canada, August 2nd, 2007 - Local businesses such as Magna, Royal Group, Vins Plastics, Ontario Sawdust and Towns of Newmarket & Aurora and the Region of York reduced electricity use upon request today to help alleviate electricity system constraints within Northern York Region.

The power advisory issued earlier today by Ontario’s Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), the organization that oversees Ontario’s power supply, prompted the Ontario Power Authority to call upon enerShift Demand Response (DR) program participants to reduce power usage. The enerShift Demand Response program is administered by Rodan Energy and Metering Solutions. This is this first time a reduction call was issued since the program was initiated last summer.

The Ontario Power Authority contracted Rodan to implement the enerShift York DR program last summer in those communities served by the Armitage Transformer Station - Bradford, East Gwillimbury, Aurora, Whitchurch-Stouffville and Newmarket. Due to the rapid growth in northern York Region, the electricity supply infrastructure has exceeded its planned capability. The enerShift York DR program has been specifically designed to address reliability concerns in the area.

DR also has added environmental benefits. “Demand Response is quickly emerging as an effective solution in to help Ontario phase out coal-power plants.” stated Paul Grod, President of Rodan Energy. “Through load reduction these participants have taken an active role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions since coal-power resources are those that can be quickly brought on line to respond to increasing demand.”
