Am I a Good Candidate for Demand Response?

• Do you have processes or loads that can be turned on or off upon request with minimal impact to your business?

• Do you have the flexibility to delay or reduce your summer weekday electricity consumption during the daytime and early evening?
• Do you have a mandate to reduce energy costs?
• Do you have a concern over the reliability of energy supply or energy quality?

Program participation has many benefits:

By participating in Rodan’s demand response program, energy consumers:

• enhance system reliability and efficiency;
• address critical environmental issues such as climate change;
• reduce the need for expensive peaking generation and transmission assets;
• demonstrate demand response is an integral component of Ontario’s supply mix

As a participant, you will not only benefit through increasing the reliability of the power supply, but also will receive solid economic benefits for doing so:

Financial Incentives
Participants will be compensated for providing the demand response capacity, as well as for providing the actual curtailment of electricity demand in response to operational directives.  The financial incentives of the program are as follows:

• Capacity Payment
  The Capacity Payment is the monthly payment to the Participant based upon the amount of electricity usage they have made available to drop upon receipt of an operational directive.  This amount will be paid each month, regardless of whether they are required to drop any load.

• Demand Response Payment
  The Demand Response Payment is the payment for the actual energy usage a Participant has shed during operational directives throughout any month.  Each month a Participant shall receive a payment equal to the energy rate for which they have contracted with Rodan Energy, multiplied by the total curtailment for the month (e.g. $XX.XX/kW/h x number of hours curtailed).
  

• Reduced Energy Costs
  The operational directive will typically be made during periods of high electricity prices and will result in a more cost effective use of electricity for the Participant.

The payment amounts will be discussed with each Participant individually and may vary depending upon, among other things, the size and reliability of the load; capital expenditures required by Rodan Energy to control or provide messaging signals to the Participant; and availability of the load.  Payments will be made directly to Participants by Rodan Energy based on measured and verified load reduction data each month.  Your hydro bills will not be affected and will be calculated using in the normal manner.  The payments will be comprised of: (i) a monthly Capacity Payment based upon the amount the Participant has bid into the program; and (ii) a monthly Demand Response Payment based upon the amount of load the Participant shed during that month as a result of an operating directive from Rodan Energy.
